Mendon House

Dick Moll’s, the predecessor to Mendon House, was my grandfathers first restaurant. As my capstone project, I adapted his collection of loosely bound recipes into a cookbook that could be used by any level home cook.

Since Mendon House closed in 2003, the recipes from my grandfather’s restaurant have been unavailable for anyone outside of our family.

This project is an exploration of food as heritage by cataloging these recipes into an accessible and approachable method for any level cook.

I started simply by taking the recipes from Mendon House and organizing them into workable chapters, i.e. soups, salads, appetizers, main dishes, etc.

Consistent feedback from classmates and external resources was invaluable. Some feedback led me to making adjustments to not just the actual cookbook design itself, but also to how big or small I was scaling recipes, and paying attention to my tone throughout the book.
